Escape from Kathmandu

I arrived in Kathmandu on wednesday ( 6.05) but three days later I just had to escape from this city. Of course, the capital of Nepal has wonderful temples but on the other hand this city is so dirty, so dusty and so noisy that a little escape for a weekend is OBLIGATORY! Especially because Kathmandu Valley has a lot of beautiful smaller, much cleaner cities with unforgettable views. So I did run away to the city of Bhaktapur ( just one hour from Kathmandu). To get to this city you have to pay ‚the entrance fee” which is 15$ ( almost all temples in Kathmandu the foreigners have to pay to visit). Nevertheless, it’s worth it. Bhaktapur is a cozy, tiny, and much less noisy town. You can chill out in the hindu and buddhist temples. You can talk to the locals who, for me, are much more nice than in Kathmandu. What’s more, this town is simply clean. You don’t see so much rubbish on the streets and you don’t have to be afraid of a big traffic on the streets because there are mostly only motors which appear within Bhaktapur. In addition, there are really nice guest houses here with a beautiful views and delicious local food. The price is mostly nothing ( you pay aroud 200 nepali rupee for one night in a mix-dorm) so it’s about 2$ for a night.

Travelling alone has its advantages which are mostly meeting new people. At first, I was a bit worried about how I’m going to travel alone ( that’s the only reason why I would like to be a man-I wouldn’t have to care about the safety during the travels) but then I met wonderfullll people from everywhere. So, Szuza- who is from Philippines and is doing the volunteer from AIESEC as well but in an NGO. Then Yonatan from Israel who has been travelling for 3 weeks and is gonna travel more and Gabriellle a shy boy from Italy who, I think, has been travelled most of his life 😀

From Bhaktapur we took a local bus to go to Dhulikel ( it’s a village one hour drive from Bhaktapur) which has beautiful views and you can see the beginnings of nature ouside of Kathmandu. In this village you can see the gold Buddha statue, Kali Temple and Namo Buddha. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to go to Namobuddha cause it was too long… The next day we finally went to Changu Narayam ( a buddhist temple on the top of the hill).

I forgot to add that while being in Bhaktapur we came across a Nepalese wedding ceremony and actually we joined this party. You can see some pictures from the ceremony that was in the morning. However, when we came back (the dame day) at night, the party was still going on and we were dancing and singing with local people. It was awesome to see all of this 😉
